Raja Yoga Class Description

To learn to deepen meditation by calming the mind through asana (postures), kriyas (purification) and pranayama (prana control).

  • Traditional approach to asanas:
Each pose is held a long time, emphasizing slow and complete exhalations. Movement is minimal and meditative.
  • The practice is individually tailored according to a practitioner's progress and particular physical condition.
  • Class is 2 hours.
  • Individual attention with multiple instructors.
  • Other instructions can include:

    - yogic teachings to calm and strengthen the mind
    - dietary guidelines and discipline

Everyone is welcome.

New beginners and long time practitioners practice together in the same room.

If for some reason you are unable to practice asanas, you can practice pranayama and meditation in the class.

Even if you think you are not flexible enough, you will receive the benefit of the practice if you practice with correct breathing.

One should not become discouraged from practicing asanas because of feeling physically inadequate. It does not matter if the body is old or young, sick or feeble — everybody is eligible to practice.

A reason why there are acrobatic looking asanas is that they stimulate different cakras. In the case of those who are flexible, basic asanas are not stimulating enough so they need advanced poses in order to receive the benefits. Also, some people may not need to practice advanced asanas in order to progress. It is individual according to each person's need.

  • Regular practice is strongly recommended and encouraged.
  • No pre-registration or reservation required.
