The aim of life is to realize the Truth. What is Truth? This cannot be answered
with one's intellect, but one can experience It. In Yoga, there is the wisdom
and the means to realize the Truth.
Simply speaking, when the mind becomes still, it will be revealed that You
are God. Be still and know that I am God. God is Truth within one and all. You
do not need to seek for It someplace far. It is the closest and nearest here
and now. The work you must do is to still the mind.
The mind possesses memories created by various habits persisting over a long
period of time. By the power of attachment, or ignorance, these memories adhere
to the mind. Furthermore, the causes of all these involve false ideas and the
power of non-Truth.
Usually, you believe the self to be the mind and the body, but these are not
your True Self. The True Self is the Pure Consciousness that sees the mind. The
mind is not the Master, but the servant, just as the body employs many different
objects as tools. One's mind, therefore, needs to learn the right teachings of
the Truth. Various religious scriptures teach this; life experiences also teach
this; but the most perfect teacher is the one who is in the Self-Realized state
of being.
Listen to the Truth, think of the Truth, and then meditate on the Truth. It
is not so difficult because the Truth is within you already, even now. It never
dies or changes. It is the only Reality.
Yoga has cultivated seekers of the Truth since ancient times. They express
this Reality through various names: Brahman, Atman, Purusha, Isvara and others.
However, the Truth needs no words. Words are used as a teaching tool to indicate
the Truth. The Truth must be realized in meditation. It is possible.
In practicing for the attainment of Self-Realization, you may come to realize
that life must be lived seriously, every day. Any profession or lifestyle is
all right, but you must remain unattached from them all. Seek only what you must
to Attain. Seek only what you must to Realize. Seek the Truth solely.
It is possible for anyone, in any condition, to attain Self-Realization as
long as one has pure faith and practices sincerely.
